Inspiring American: Gary Hager

His nickname is "smiley" and his laughter is unforgettable. (The kind that makes you smile as soon as you hear it!) He sees the good in everyone and thinks the world of youth and has made it his life mission to teach them what life is really about.

Gary Hager and his wife have a son named Joey who is now in his teenage years. They were so excited for this blessing and wanted to have more children, but found out seven years ago that they were not able to have any more children. They tried several adoption agencies and had no luck. They also tried to become foster parents but every time their hopes were raised, something would happen and it ended up not working out. They prayed for God's will, but wished that a miracle would happen.

Gary felt that God was telling him that he is a great father, but was needed to be a father to many other children who do not have one. Gary tirelessly does just that. He is a father figure to many youth in his church. He recently returned form a Catholic Heart Work Camp in Oklahoma City where 300 kids from across the nation worked in the inner city. He has been a group leader for many youth activities in his community as well. He truly has the heart of a servant leader. He makes a real difference in the lives of young people and inspires them to volunteer and be involved with serving others.
