Lynnette Price

"What can I do with what I have, to make the greatest impact on this world?"

This is the question that Lynnette Price asked herself when she learned that one eighth of mothers in America are single mothers trying to raise children on their own, without a support system. Lynnette wants to build America's backbone by strengthening families. She is building (with the help of a diverse board and many others) a unique campus environment for single mothers and their children that are struggling to keep their families together.

Mission: To create a multi-faceted environment that will love, inspire, nurture, and educate women and their children to embrace a healthy lifestyle. They will live on this campus for two years addressing three important issues; Body, Mind and Spirit.

For the Body: There will be exercise programs and nutrition programs for the single mothers to learn to have a healthy lifestyle. They will have home grown vegetables, berries and fruits for the women to learn to grow, prepare and sell.

For the Mind: Relationship and confidence building and parenting classes will be offered. They will learn personal and professional life skills that will help them create a successful future for themselves and their children. The children will attend either public school or private school systems during the day. They will get involved in the mother's work during summers and holidays. Day care will be provided, creating one of the newest models of day care that is starting in the state of Minnesota.

For the Spirit: They will be encouraged to connect with the faith community, wherever they feel they can best grow spiritually. Kids will be encouraged to participate in Sunday school. There will be a chapel right on the campus with various speakers and services that inspire the faith of the students and staff. To be healthy means to be whole in mind, body and spirit.

Six months before graduation, the women will decide what to do when they leave the campus and live on their own; using the tools and skills they have learned throughout the 2 years. The money they make will be saved until they leave. It will be used as seed money for further schooling, finding a home and handling expenses as they start out on their own. Every two years, there will be a campus homecoming event that will bring back women to share their stories of success with the new students who are struggling with similar issues.

This is a grand opportunity to change the lives of these families. Lynnette and her Board have been working hard to complete the planning stages and secure the necessary funding to bring their dream to reality. The board hopes to have a ground breaking by 2011.

Lynnette has been inspired by her parents, who believed she could do anything in the world. She will be proving them correct by inspiring the lives of 50 women and their children each year as well as the many lives she has already come in contact with, as she strives to make the world a better place.
